Window-and-Door-Locks

Window and Door Locks

Locks provide security and functionality to systems. In the aluminium industry, the term "lock" is mainly used for doors and sliding systems. In tilt & turn and lift & slide systems the "locks" are known as "mechanisms".

In case of entrance doors and simple sliding systems, multiple options of locks are available, depending on the level of security and usability required by the user.

Regarding security
The number of locking points is a major security factor. Single point locks and multi point locks (up to 5 for doors, and 4 for simple slidings) as an enhanced security solution are available in the Alumil range.

Locks can also have different types of locking, ranging from hooks, to bolts and pins. .

Regarding functionality:
Roller locks can be used for easy access from the outside without the need of a key. Doors with roller locks can be pushed open and are usually found in commercial applications. Respectively, for domestic applications latch locks are used to allow entrance to key users only.

Automatic locks can be fitted to ensure the 'locking' of the door when pushed closed without the need of turning the key.

Further, automatic mechanisms can be fitted for opening and closing the door sash with the use of a button or a remote. This can be very usefull for applications in areas with users of limited abilities.

Based on the above, Alumil offers a full range of locks, from simple ones to multi point locks with intergrated automations to meet even the highest requirements.

Window and Door Hinges

Hinges are a distinctive part of all opening systems. Depending on the requirements, hinges may have different characteristics, the main of which is their load capacity:

Hinges may be either visible on the system, or concealed as a more refined solution. In case of visible hinges, their design and colour complete the appearance of the system. Usually hinges have a cylindrical shape and are available in most popular colours of powder coating and anodising.

Depending on the application, hinges meet different technical requirements and can be found with different names:

  • In projecting windows the hinges are called "stay arms"
  • In pivoting windows they are called "pivot hinges"
  • In bifolding doors, 'roller-hinges' are used, as a combination of rollers and hinges
  • Finally, they can be screw-fixed or clamped according to their installation on windows or doors

Last but not least, a key characteristic is their certification for durability and corossion resistance. Alumil range hinges are fully certified at all levels.

Window-and-Door-Handles

Window and Door Handles

The handles are the only single point of touch with the aluminium system. The handle gives life to the rest of the system accessories, which provide its functionality. Thus, the handle is a very important part of the system. The main handle characteristics are:

  • Their types. According to the application, handles are divided in window, door and lift&slide types. Moreover, the above types can be divided into sub-groups with discrete characteristics.
  • The safety they provide. The handles can enhance the system safety by 2 different ways. The first is for the handle to be fitted with a key, by which not only the internal use of the system can be controlled but also enhances the anti-burglary protection. The second way is the anti-burglar Secustic mechanism, which does not allow outside operation of the hadnle. Alumil range contains both solutions.
  • Their aesthetics. Alumil uses mostly Alumil designed handles, which complete every Alumil system. The handles are available in all popular colors in powder coating and anodising. Also, special colours are available upon request.
  • Their certifications against durability and anticorrosion. Alumil range handles are fully certified at all levels

Window and Door Mechanisms

Similarly to what is discussed for locks, mechanisms provide security and functionality to a window or door. The main difference is that locks usually are a single piece while mechanisms are a complete solution of several parts with a more complex function. There are 2 types of mechanisms, tilt & turn, and lift & slide.

Window-and-Door-Mechanisms

The tilt & turn mechanisms are characterized by the following points:

  • Their material and their operation design. Hence, there are 2 basic types, the aluminium mechanism, which consists of metal parts connected by a rod, and the steel mechanism, which consists of metal parts connected to each other without the use of extra parts.
  • The number of locking points. Both mechanism can have multiple locking points perimetrically of the sash, according the security requirements.
  • The handle type. The Alumil range mechanisms are always fitted with Alumil handles.
  • The sash weight. When there are large openings, and/or heavy glass panes, a heavy-duty mechanism should be used. However, in most cases standard mechanisms can be sufficient.
  • The hinge aesthetics. Mechanism hinges can be visible or concealed, and painted in various colours.
  • The sash-opening angle. The opening angle may differ depending to the technical characteristics of each mechanism. Hence, there are mechanisms that allow the sash to open up to 100 degrees while others up to 180 degrees.
  • The maximum sash dimensions they can support.
  • Their certifications against durability and corrosion resistance. The Alumil range mechanisms are highly certified at all levels.

The lift and slide system mechanisms are characterized by the following points:

  • The weight that their rollers can support. Alumil has 2 mechanisms. The standard one is adequate for sash weight up to 200kg and the heavy-duty one up to 400kg.
  • The number of locking points. Both mechanisms described above have 2 locking points and one more for enhanced security, if required. The number of the locking points, and the fact that the sash lays on its weight when closed.
  • The ease of use. Alumil lift and slide mechanisms offer very smooth and silent sliding even for very large and heavy sashes, while the locking operation is safe even for young kids.
  • Alumil lift and slide mechanisms are always fitted with Alumil handles.
  • Alumil lift and slide mechanisms are fully certified for durability and corrosion resistance.
