Technological leadership: Collaboration of ALUMIL and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for CERN

ALUMIL and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki are pioneering once again, by undertaking the construction of an important part of the state-of-the-art detector used at CERN. CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is the world's largest high-energy physical laboratory. It is located at the Franco-Swiss border, near Geneva, and represents one of the first European mutual efforts in the development of research and innovation. It was established in 1954 and Greece is one of its 12 founding members. ALUMIL, the largest manufacturing industry of aluminium systems in South-East Europe, was chosen as the main partner by the Radiation-Detector Laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, aiming at the construction of aluminum frames for CERN's ultra-modern ATLAS detector. The project requires very high manufacturing precision, especially regarding the machining of the metal parts of the aluminium frame. ALUMIL, always at the forefront of innovation, absolutely supports actions highlighting the importance of Greek universities through their participation in scientific research of international scope.
