Event Center - Ayia Napa Marina: ALUMIL’s advanced systems at the spectacular project

Ayia Napa Marina is one of the most important construction projects in Cyprus and the wider Eastern Mediterranean. ALUMIL participated in a building that is the trademark of the Marina, the Event Center. It is a modern event venue that aspires to become a magnet for visitors and businesspeople arriving on the island of Aphrodite.

Breathtaking design

The elliptical design constitutes an architectural masterpiece that creates a sense of flow over the sea. The architectural firm Smithgroup JJR, responsible for the design, took into account the proximity to the sea, and the final result is highly well-balanced. The metal frame is ideally complemented by custom-made aluminium curtain walls, while curved aluminium louvers surround the structure and provide enhanced shading.

The construction challenges

The uniqueness of the construction with the curved shape of the Event Center was a special challenge for the ALUMIL team, as all systems had to be adapted to it. Thus, each piece of aluminium profile or glazing used in the project was unique, and the positions of the anchors of the curtain wall and louvers needed to be predetermined. Also, the project’s location in a coastal area played a vital role in the surface treatment followed (anodizing) for total protection against the risk of filiform corrosion.

In the words of our partners

In order for a project as large as the Event Center to be successful, coordination and smooth cooperation between all parties involved are required. At ALUMIL, having many years of experience with large-scale projects all over the world, we were ready from the very beginning to offer our expertise and provide solutions wherever it was deemed necessary for the progress of the operations. According to Mr. Yiannis Liassides, Manager of the Architectural Department of M. M. Makronisos Marina Ltd., "ALUMIL's contribution to the final result was significant and crucial to such an extent that the design of entirely new products took place [..]". As Mr. Liasidis underlined, "[..] we would unreservedly recommend ALUMIL as the ideal partner for projects of similar complexity".

ALUMIL Solutions & Systems in the project

The extensive experience of the company's International Projects department and the respective Research & Development department contributed tremendously to the implementation of a specific strategy concerning the deliverables and to providing tailor-made solutions specifically for the project's needs. Special designs of all the aluminium structures were executed. During the construction (offsite) and installation (on-site), the company was supportive at every stage, ensuring the correct completion of the operations. SMARTIA M7, a curtain wall system characterized by high energy efficiency and increased static robustness, was installed in the building and customized in unique pieces to fit the elliptical design of the project. Furthermore, the SMARTIA M5600 shading system was used, which with its elliptical louvers, gave a distinctive aesthetic character to the project and was turned into a design trademark. Finally, the sophisticated  SUPREME SF85 folding door system was adjusted to integrate smoothly into the elliptical building shell.
