ALUMIL has proved that it consistently supports the initiatives that put architecture at the forefront and reinforce its position in society. Once again, the company was the grand sponsor of the 10th Open House Thessaloniki, which took place during the weekend of October 23rd & 24th.
This year’s Open House invited the people of Thessaloniki to walk and rediscover the history of the city, through the remnants of its old urban fabric. Hence, before the event on 23 & 24 of October, Open House had prepared – as a part of the Exhibition of ArXellence 2, ALUMIL’s architectural competition – the “Industrial Walking Tour”. The participants of this tour had the opportunity to walk beside the once thriving industrial facilities of the Western Gate. The tour’s final station was the yard of the historic building of the Municipal Slaughterhouse, where the ArXellence 2 Exhibition was held, with over 170 proposals of architects around the world.
The “Industrial Walking Tour” – which attracted a large amount of people in September - was a part of the 10 walks that were organized for two days in October. From the Western Walls to the Routes of Trade and the Upper Town, to the Galerian Complex and the Countryside District, this year’s Open House Thessaloniki invited the visitors to a unique journey in the city’s history, the rich multicultural past and the everchanging architectural changes that shaped its destiny and are now evident on the urban scenery.
The two-day Open House Thessaloniki was successfully completed, offering unique tour to its visitors. ALUMIL, as the major sponsor, welcomes the Open House and its parallel events, which provide the opportunity to the citizens of Thessaloniki to learn about the past of historic and newer buildings, highlighting the value of architecture in our lives.
