Almost 70 kilometers west of London, Reading is a city with a population of more than 300 thousand people, which keeps growing each year. The city’s thriving reputation as a business hub has attracted new corporations and entrepreneurs. As a result, housing remains a significant issue that needs certain solutions.

The derelict retail park across Weldale Street in central Reading, within walking distance from the rail station, got approval for regeneration of the old facilities and reconstruction that will comprise the new residential complex of the region. The main vision of the architectural office AWW that designed the new project was the creation of a new community with extended open and green spaces. According to the architects’ statement regarding Foundry Quarter “integral to the project are the public open spaces, gardens and private courtyards, allowing people to sit, relax and socialize”.

The main characteristic of the neighboring building environment is the distinctive red brick. This is totally respected by the new design and it is evident throughout the whole structure of the complex. The apartments, that are going to be available during 2021 for both sale and rental, will be ideal for the new global “working from home” condition, as the buildings provide modern lounge and recreational areas.

ALUMIL’s contribution to the Foundry Quarter was essential. Two premium systems were used in order to equip the buildings and provide high performance levels. One of the two systems is the hinged insulated SUPREME S77. The system is the company’s proposal for advanced thermal insulation. S77 provides high energy efficiency (passive house certification), high security levels, exceptional sound insulation and ease of use. All these traits render it an ideal solution for contemporary residences in an urban area. ALUMIL’s second product that was used in the project is the thermally insulated entrance door system SUPREME SD77. Apart from the reinforced security, the SD77 system complements perfectly the S77 casements, as it offers high thermal and sound insulation and at the same time offers elegant uniformity that enhances the aesthetics of the project.

The Foundry Quarter offers the city of Reading a modern residential option. Young businessmen, digital nomads and entrepreneurs can live and work there, in a smooth, safe and joyful way.
