The Butterfly

Situation

The natural light, the open spaces and the creation of a tower that will generate a unique sense of unity were the crucial points of the 57-story skyscraper. The vision of the internationally acclaimed architect Bing Thom for constructing a building that could improve the urban fabric and people’s lives was passed on to Revery Architecture studio (formerly Bing Thom Architects), which is responsible for the project.

The Butterfly is an innovative, mixed-use construction featuring both luxury and affordable condos, as well as commercial spaces. The exterior of the building gives a sense of movement, with the wavy, concrete façade combining perfectly with the large glazing surfaces of the apartments.

Solution

ALUMIL’s advanced lift and slide system SUPREME S700, which was selected for the project, is an aesthetically fitting solution as it completely meets the modern trend of “transparent” architecture. In addition, the system provides high robustness and resistance to heavy wind load (it passed the internationally acclaimed “Miami Dade” test against hurricanes and was officially certified for its performance).

The participation of ALUMIL in this magnificent project in Vancouver was concluded with the equally reliable SUPREME S77, well-known for its high energy efficiency and modern design. Lastly, it is worth noting that the two aluminum systems have received Cradle2Cradle certification (the global standard for sustainable products),  rendering them excellent choices for The Butterfly, which is being built in line with LEED Gold standards.
