The Pyramid of Tirana

In the heart of the Albanian capital, the Pyramid of Tirana, an imposing building with a long history, is transformed into a symbol of innovation, creativity, and open education. 

The architectural design by MVRDV aimed to preserve its original identity while adding new and dynamic elements that will give life to an abandoned building. 

At first glance, attention is drawn to colorful box-shaped structures, which emerge in a creative way both inside and around the building, modernizing its appearance and giving it a vibrant sense. On the exterior, stairs and a lift rise along the building’s sides, allowing visitors to explore all levels with ease. Inside, cafes, laboratories, start-up offices, and classrooms coexist in harmony, while the innovative design of the building is perfectly complemented by advanced aluminium systems that enhance natural lighting and energy efficiency.
