George Horozoglou: "Architecture will have to gradually move away from the lifestyle approach"

Interview: Giannis Sifnios
George Horozoglou is an architect with a deep love and knowledge of his subject. With over 3 decades in the industry, he has designed together with his partners (SCHEMA 4) a multitude of projects that have left their unique imprint on the contemporary urban landscape.
A man of analytical thinking and insight, he does not hesitate to clearly express his views on difficult issues. In his words "the way in which the citizen appropriates public space in Greece today has characteristics of privatization and often squatting".
On the future of architecture and how it can improve people's lives, Mr. Horozoglou stresses that "architecture is not a panacea. It plays an important role in shaping the living environment of people, who will be called upon to revisit their habits and goals."
At the same time, he stresses that architecture will need to "move away from the lifestyle approach towards its authentic definition as a social tool".
During our conversation, he recalled important milestones of SCHEMA 4, talked about ALUMIL and its systems used in the STEM Center of Anatolia College, recalled moments from his collaboration with the great architect Arata Isozaki in the emblematic project of the M2 building of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and made special reference to projects he considers points of reference.
