Taberner House

Challenge

At a site that until 2015 housed the City Council offices in the Croydon region of London, the construction of a new residential building complex was approved. The intention for this new construction was to combine the commercial element with the needs of the local community for affordable housing.

Solution

Taberner House, located almost 15 kilometers south of the London city center, is a highly anticipated project that was assigned to the architectural firm AHMM. According to the plan, 4 buildings were erected, including a 32 -story tower, which upon its completion will offer 513 new residences for rental and sale, as well as retail spaces.

The architectural approach follows the aesthetics of its environment. The design is simple, with vertical and horizontal lines and balconies with a view of on the green surroundings. Moreover, the architects’ vision is that the Taberner House will harmonically supplement the Queen’s Gardens park, which is under redevelopment process. The overall result adopts an anthropocentric character, promoting the smooth coexistence with the park and its green element. Meeting the high-quality British standards (BS), the 4 buildings are equipped with thermally insulated aluminium frames, which offer significant energy saving, top sound reduction levels, exceptional watertightness and ease of passage, thanks to the low threshold.

Taberner House will be a residential landmark for this important London area. Through its special design, it offers housing solutions that can improve people’s daily lives.
